Fu Manchu uses the prisoner and an alliance with the Mafia to bring the world to its knees. Nayland Smith has to use all his resources to vanquish the evil, and clever oriental fiend.
The third of the Fu Manchu series that began well, but lost its period atmosphere and suspense as the series progressed. This follows a familiar Fu Manchu formula with Lee at his evil best.
Sequel: Blood of Fu Manchu.

THE VENGEANCE OF SHE (1967/Hammer/7 Arts) 101mins. UK.

Cast: John Richardson, Olinka Berova, Edward Judd, Colin Blakely, Derek Godfrey, Jill Melford, George Sewell, André Morell, Noel Willman.
Carol, (Berova), discovers that her compulsions to travel to Africa are caused by a power that emanates from the hidden city of Kuma whose immortal ruler Killikrates, (Richardson), believes that she is the reincarnation of his beloved queen, Ayesha. When Carol arrives in the hidden city, Killkrates attempts to persuade Carol to join him in the sacred flame of immortality, but she refuses and Killkrates turns to dust in the fire as he was already immortal and the flame reversed the process.
An unconvincing sequel that follows the same plot of the original and only adds an unimaginative role reversal.

A student, (Kuravlev), is forced to spend three nights with the corpse of a possessed woman, (Varlei), that returns to life, resurrecting vampires and demons to attack and kill him.

VIKING WOMEN AND THE SEA SERPENT (1957/Malibu Prod./AIP.) 66mins. BW.
Aka: THE SAGA OF THE VIKING WOMEN AND THEIR VOYAGE TO THE WATERS OF THE GREAT SEA SERPENT.
Credits: Dir. & Prod: Roger Corman; Ex.Prod: James H. Nicholson & Samuel Z. Arkoff; Sc: Lawrence Louis Goldman; Ph: Monroe P. Askins; Ed: Ronald Sinclair; Art: Robert Kinoshita; Ph.Fx: Jack Rabin, Louis DeWitt & Irving Block; Mus: Albert Glasser. From a story by Irving Block.
Cast: Abby Dalton, Susan Cabot, Brad Jackson, June Kenney, Richard Devon, Betsy Jones Moreland, Johnathan Haze, Jay Sayer, Lynn Bernay, Sally Todd, Gary Conway, Michael Forest, Wilda Taylor.
Looking for their missing Viking husbands, some Viking women embark on a voyage to try and find them, but along the way their ship is destroyed in a giant vortex where a sea monster dwells. The survivors are captured by the Grimaults who are initially fascinated with the women, but it becomes apparent that the Grimaults have captured the Viking men too. Despite their captivity and persecution, the women rescue their men and set off in a stolen ship followed by their angry captors. The monster of the vortex destroys the Grimault ship and the Vikings manage to kill the monster.
A terribly inept B-movie known primarily for it's long title. The cast are made up of hopeful Hollywood starlets who are good to look at, but unfortunately have no acting ability.

VILLA MILAGROSA (1958/LVN) Philippines.

Features a ghost, (Solis).

VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED (1960/MGM.) 78mins. BW. UK.
Credits: Dir: Wolf Rilla; Prod: Ronald Kinnoch; Sc: Stirling Silliphant, Wolf Rilla & George Barclay; Ph: Geoffrey Faithfull; Ed: Gordon Hales; Art: Ivan King; Ph.Fx: Tom Howard; Mu: Eric Aylott; Mus: Ron Goodwin. From "The Midwich Cuckoos" by John Wyndham.
Cast: George Sanders, Barbara Shelley, Michael Gwynne, Laurence Naismith, John Phillips, Alexander Archdale, Richard Vernon, Jenny Laird, Richard Warner, Thomas Heathcote, Martin Stephens, Charlotte Mitchell, Keith Pyott, John Stuart, Sarah Long, Bernard Archard, Shelia Robins, Peter Vaughn, Tom Bowman, Pamela Buck, Susan Richards, Rosamund Greenwood.
The inhabitants of Midwich village in the heart of rural England suffer a mysterious blackout that clears quickly and does not effect any neighbouring villages. Nine months later all the fertile women of the village give birth to identical fair-haired babies, but as they grow it becomes evident that they are not of earthly origination as they can telepathically communicate with each other and are extremely intelligent. Led by David, (Stephens), they possess the power to cause the death of anyone who means them harm and stands in their way of world domination. School teacher, Gordon Zellaby, (Sanders), agrees to tutor the children including his own child David, but he secretly uses his position to smuggle a bomb into his school that kills the children and himself to save the world.
A classic of the science fiction cinema that is faithful to Wyndham's novel while being bolstered by Sanders' fine performance and the effective eerieness of the child stars. The stark monochrome photography and serene village sets heighten the menace of the invaders who insidiously manage to control the normal English community.
Sequel: Children of the Damned.

VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS (1965/Berkeley Prod./Embassy) 77mins. US.
Credits: Dir. & Prod: Bert I. Gordon; Sc: Alan Caillou; Ph: Paul C. Vogel; Ed: John Bushelman; Art: Franz Bachelin; Sfx: Bert I. Gordon & Flora Gordon; Mus: The Beau Brummels, Freddie Cannon & Jack Nitzsche. From a story by Bert I. Gordon inspired by "Food of the Gods" by H.G. Wells.
Cast: Tommy Kirk, Charla Doherty, Johnny Crawford, Ronny Howard, Freddy Cannon, Mike Clifford, Beau Bridges, Tisha Sterling, Joseph Turkel, Tim Rooney, Toni Basil, Joy Harmon.
"See them burst out of their clothes and bust up the town!"
A scientist, (Howard), discovers a spongy organism that causes rapid growth in anyone who happens to consume it. Some rebellious teenagers eat the strange substance and begin to grow to thirty feet high, while the giant girls invite men to climb over their breasts. Some well-behaved teens and their leader, (Kirk), try to stop the onslaught of the delinquent giants.
An absolutely ridiculous and outrageous plot is quite rightly treated as a comedy with some good musical numbers.
Ronny Howard became Ron Howard who starred as Richie Cunnigham in television's "Happy Days" and later directed SPLASH and APOLLO 13.

LE VIOL DU VAMPIRE (1968/Les Films ABC/Sam Selsky) BW. France.
Aka: THE VAMPIRE'S RAPE; LA REINE DES VAMPIRES.
Credits: Dir: Jean Rollin; Prod: Sam Selsky.
Cast: Solange Pradel, Bernard Letrou, Ursule Pauly, Nicole Romain, Catherine Deville, Jacqueline Sieger.
Two crazed blood-drinking sisters believe they are cursed by a sword wielding vampire, but no one is certain until they meet the queen of the vampires on a beach. Eventually the villagers massacre the vampires at their black mass.
Rollin's first feature began as a short film that was expanded with an amateur mix of arty visuals and mild eroticism. All traces of the story are lost and only moments of artistic ability are worth noting.

A silly story with plenty of nudity and terrible acting.

VISIT TO A SMALL PLANET (1959/Wallis-Hazen/Paramount) 85mins. BW. US.
Credits: Dir: Norman Taurog; Prod: Hal B. Wallis; Sc: Edmund Beloin & Henry Garson; Ph: Loyal Griggs; Ed: Warren Low & Frank Bracht; Art: Hal Pereira & Walter Tyler; Sfx: John P. Fulton; Mu: Wally Westmore; Mus: Leigh Harline. From a play by Gore Vidal.

Kreton's powers are taken away by his observing alien elders and he discovers pain for the first time after which he is recalled to his home planet.
An entertaining comedy vehicle for Jerry Lewis, but despite efforts, only fans will appreciate the jokes.

Dr. Phillip Knight, (Karloff), and his expedition fall victim to voodoo curses and man-eating cobra plants that transform them into zombies. Dr. Knight is unwilling to believe that magic is responsible, but he cannot deny the evidence and has to fight back.
A silly film for Karloff completists only. Dr. Knight ludicrously waits till most of his expedition members are dead before raising a finger to help.

VOODOO WOMAN (1956/Carmel) 80mins. BW. US.
Credits: Dir: Edward L. Cahn; Prod: Alex Gordon; Ex.Prod: Samuel Z. Arkoff & John H. Nicholson; Sc: Russell Bender & V.I. Voss; Ph: Frederick E. West; Ed: Ronald Sinclair; Art: Don Ament & Bart Carre; Mu: Harry Thomas; Mus: Darrell Calker.

However, when an expedition led by a ruthless woman, (English), arrives to search for gold the mutated creature does not obey Gerard's command to kill as it is contrary to the nature of the woman he transformed. Dr. Gerard decides to use the expedition's leader in his next experiment as she has already displayed her aptitude for killing. Gerard's wife tries to warn the expedition members to leave the village as she believes her husband is insane and will kill them all. Gerard transforms the woman into a monster, but during the night of a blood sacrifice when his wife has been chosen by the natives as the subject for the inhuman rites, the creature learns that there is no gold in the area and kills the scientist before transforming back into human form and falling into a fiery pit. Gerard's wife and another member of the expedition manage to escape while the creature is briefly seen clawing herself out of the pit.
A slow moving and confusing film with the usual B-movie attributes including terrible acting and moments of unintended hilarity.
Paul Blaisdell, the designer and the man in the rubber suit, uses the same costume that he created for She Creature.

To avenge the premature burial of his ancestor, a scientist, (Tamiroff), uses nuclear power and a vulture that was buried with a witch to turn into a vulture man, a creature with a vulture's body and the scientist's head, to kill the people responsible.
